Intense Pulse Light Therapy

What is IPL? It stands for intense pulse light treatment.

IPL is a non-invasive light base technology used to permanently reduce unwanted hair and improve many skin conditions. Skin conditions like age spots, sun spots, freckles, superficial capillaries and other unsightly discolouration of the skin can be eliminated using this technology. IPL is also increasing effective for those of us who suffer from Rosacea and can even stimulate fibroblast causing increased collagen production in our skin for a more natural, lively, healthier looking you!

Why is IPL called permanent reduction not permanent hair removal?

IPL hair removal only treats hair in the anagen phase and at any point in time, you only have a portion of your hair in the anagen phase. IPL hair reduction treatments are a safe, easy, painless and quick solution for unwanted hair. Usually a course of 6-8 treatments are required to achieve an optimal result, but once you have completed your treatment cycle, you can look forward to a lifetime of smooth skin with only the occasional maintenance treatment. Compare that to the cost and hassle of a lifetime of waxing.

How effective is IPL?

IPL is a very effective method of hair removal, as it will reduce more than 85% of all hair treated, some people may achieve 100% hair loss, and only need a touch up treatment every few years although not everyone will achieve this result, so it can not be 100% guaranteed.

Does IPL Hurt?

Our IPL machines have cool tip technology, which means the surrounding skin is cooled before your skin absorbs each flash of light. This makes it more comfortable for you with better outcomes, although you may feel a slight level of discomfort with each application. Some people say the treatment feels like being flicked by an elastic band. This will reduce as the area being treated responds to the treatments. Afterwards, your skin may go slightly red for a few hours and feel sensitive for a few days.

How many IPL hair Treatments will I need?

You should see a result after your first treatment. You’ll also see a significant improvement if your treatment is repeated at regular intervals. usually between 4-8 treatments but there are varying factors to be discussed at your consultation.

  • Permanent Hair reduction: 6-8 Treatments spaced four to six weeks apart.
  • Sun spot reduction: 4-6 treatments spaced four weeks apart.
  • Vascular lesions: 4-6 treatments spaced two to three weeks apart.
  • Skin rejuvenation: 4-6 treatments spaced four weeks apart.
  • Acne treatments: May be ongoing weekly or fortnightly.

Skin Rejuvenation:

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Skin Rejuvenation is the most modern form of light-based skin therapy. Skin rejuvenation treatments will improve skin tone, texture, refine and refresh the skin by increasing the production of collagen in the skin.

Intense Pulsed Light, technology works as it is absorbed into targeted cells and causes a controlled damage response to the required area. This damage promotes a wound-healing response in the skin, without a major tissue build-up. Effectively, the skin begins to rapidly produce new skin cells, which replace old, damaged or disfigured patches of skin. IPL is more effective than other skin rejuvenation technologies because of the high frequency and intensity of the light employed. The skin in between the target areas is left untouched, which promotes far more rapid healing and faster improvement leading to less down time, allowing you to get on with your life uninterrupted, during your course of treatments.

Pigmentation Treatments:

Born with or acquired over the course of a lifetime, virtually everyone has one or more sun spots, freckles or skin discolouration they would love to get rid of. A doctor’s letter confirming that no skin cancers are present is usually required before commencing your treatment cycle and a series of 4-6 treatments spaced 4 weeks apart are required for optimal results. Treatment areas such as the back of the hands, forearms, back, decolletage and face will respond well.

Acne treatments:

IPL treatments are designed to specifically slow the overall production of oil that leads to acne, thus dramatically reducing the chance of spots and minimising the appearance of pores in general. Results will vary, but most people will see a significant improvement in skin condition. Treatment should be spaced approximately 1-2 weeks apart.

Vascular Treatment:

We can offer IPL treatments which will reduce facial vascular blemishes such as red flushing known as Rosacea. Thread veins and red spots found on cheeks and around the nose treated with minimal downtime or risk. A treatment cycle of 4-6 treatments spaced two to three weeks apart is usually required to reach your best possible outcome. Then to clean up the finer capillaries, we recommend the VascuLyse treatment.
