We have 2 skin needling options available with the more recently developed Microneedling with the M Pen [Pro] if you’re happy to try a new and effective skin needling process and also the traditional Medical skin needling which has been in effective use for many years.
What is Microneedling with the m pen [PRO]?
The Mesoestetic m.pen [PRO] is a medical device shaped similar to a pencil, making it easy for our therapist to operate. At the end of the m.pen there is a small surface with microneedles that vibrate lightly and quickly. The microneedling, better known as Dermapen, is a minimally invasive treatment that does not involve bleeding and only causes a cutaneous erythema (redness) variable depending on the patient’s reaction that can last from 1 to 24 hours.
In addition to facilitating the entry of active ingredients into the skin by creating microchannels that allow the passage of these, we are causing a microlesion in the skin. This lesion activates a mechanism of restoration by all the dermal tissue that consists of activating the fibroblasts so that they create new collagen and elastin. This way, our skin after this process will be for about 3 weeks regenerating their own cells and components. It is as if we make our skin to exercise to renew and improve. The result will be a healthier and more beautiful skin, totally regenerated.

What is the M.Pen [PRO] treatment?
Firstly, we apply the specific product needed on the entire face, according to the patient’s skin type. Then we use the m.pen [PRO] with greater or lesser vibration according to the 5 speeds available, with slow movements throughout the facial surface simulating a massage. The microneedles, with 6 depths to choose from, open microchannels on the skin through which the active principle that we have previously placed can easily pass, thus achieving a much greater effect than if we applied it topically.
Finally, the skin reacts by regenerating the microchannels that we have opened through the creation of collagen and elastin, recovering completely from the small “lesions” created.
What is microneedling for?
We want to recover small face, neck and neckline imperfections. It will improve expression lines, acne marks, light scars, hyperpigmentation, stretch marks, etc. But we can also apply it on healthy skin to regenerate the tissue by the micro-traumatic effect that the needles have on the dermal surface.
In short, we are performing a minimally invasive anti-aging treatment based on the regeneration of our skin, ideal to combine with various medical-aesthetic techniques.
How much time and sessions are?
Each session usually lasts about 45 minutes, each treatment is a minimum of 1 month apart allowing time for the regeneration of new collagen usually taking about 21 days.
The number of sessions will always depend on the condition of the patient’s skin and the lesions we want to correct, but we can expect that in 3 – 4 sessions we will obtain a good result and then we can schedule a maintenance consisting of 2 – 3 sessions a year.
Aftercare?
As a rule, we do not need any kind of specific care because it is a minimally invasive treatment. Recommending Medik8 home care and the use of sunscreen SPF50+ for added protection. It is also not recommended for 25 hrs to participate in energetic or frictional manipulations of the skin.
What is Medical Skin Needling?
This is also known as Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT) or Scar Reduction Therapy (SRT) Skin needling has been a safe cosmetic procedure in existence for more than 25 years.
Medik8 Skin Needling is a minimally invasive skin renewal technique used to rejuvenate and improve appearance of the skin. This treatment uses micro-needles on a titanium Medical Grade roller that is moved gently over skin after a topical anaesthetic has been applied. This will create tiny controlled puncture wounds in the skin to stimulate the body’s natural collagen production as wound healing response begins. Q; what are the Contra-indications for skin needling?
A: Anyone who is darker skinned and hyper pigmented will need to use a lightening skin treatment for 2 weeks prior to their treatment. If you have a propensity to keloid you would not be a candidate for skin needling.We never work on raised moles, warts or any raised lesions.
Q: How many treatments are recommended for rejuvenation, acne scarring and stretch marks? (General guide)
A:
Rejuvenation: 4-6 treatments, 2-6 weeks apart
Acne scarring: 6 treatments, 2-4 weeks apart
Stretch marks: 4-8 treatments, 2-6 weeks apart
Q: How do I prepare my skin before having a skin needling Treatment?
A: For optimal results, Skin priming should start 2 weeks before your appointment. The use of stable vitamin A,C and growth factor Medik8 serums in the weeks before skin needling, will jump start the process of collagen production, accelerating the benefits from treatment. These same Medik8 products are also recommended for post- treatment healing.Clients prone to hyper-pigmentation are advised to add a lightening serum – Medik8 White Balance. Those who bruise easily should use Red Alert serum.
Q: What happens during the treatment?
A: Your skin is cleansed, assessed, and a topical anaesthetic (numbing cream) is applied for 30-60 minutes. During this time you are free to relax (most clients relax and sleep whilst numbing). After this time your skin is cleansed again, then a potent hydrating serum, containing hyaluronic acid and vitamins, is applied which is transfused deep into the skin during treatment. Titanium Microneedle Roller is rolled gently over the skin to puncture the outermost layer to create thousands of miniscule sub-cutaneous injuries. You will not feel any appreciable pain. The process usually lasts for 20 minutes.
Q: Can the skin needling be carried out on darker skin types?
A: Skin needling can be safely performed on all skin colours and types. There is no risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation as the melanocytes remain intact, like the epidermis, during skin needling.
Other invasive procedures such as laser resurfacing are not recommended for darker skin types due to the potential risks of delayed wound healing, pigmentation changes and scarring. This is where skin needling has an advantage as these potential risks are very unlikely due to the epidermis remaining intact.
Q: How long should it take before I see results?
A: Typically, you will see significant results 6 weeks following the treatment and continue to improve for up to a year or more. A recommended course of 3 skin needling treatments at 6 week intervals to achieve optimum results combined with Medik8 post care.
Q: Is the treatment painful?
A: For minimum needle depths Skin needling treatments are relatively painless. Treatments over 0.5mm deep, may require a topical anaesthetic cream to be applied for 30-60 minutes before the procedure. This will render the treatments virtually pain free.
